Why Choose a Glasshouse Extension?

A glasshouse extension offers a refined alternative to a traditional conservatory. Designed with a more architectural approach, these structures create a stronger connection between indoors and outdoors while maintaining a solid, contemporary feel.

With a greater emphasis on framing, roof structure, and proportion, glasshouse extensions are ideal for homeowners seeking a modern garden-facing extension that feels intentional, permanent, and well integrated with their home.

Glasshouse Extension Styles

Architectural glazed extensions designed around your home and garden.

Classic Glasshouse Extensions

Classic glasshouse extensions take inspiration from traditional glass structures while adopting a more robust, extension-style form. These designs feature strong frames, balanced proportions, and generous glazing, creating a timeless look that complements both modern and traditional homes.

They are ideal for homeowners who want a refined, light-filled extension without overly ornate detailing.

Free-Standing Glasshouse Extensions

Free-standing glasshouse extensions are designed as independent garden structures, offering the same architectural presence as an attached extension while sitting separately within the landscape.

Often used as garden rooms, studios, or entertaining spaces, these structures provide flexibility in layout and positioning while maintaining a cohesive design language with the main property.

Bespoke Glasshouse Extensions

Every glasshouse extension we build is bespoke. For clients with specific requirements, we design completely custom structures that reflect the scale, style, and function of the space.

Whether you’re looking for a contemporary glazed extension with clean lines or a more traditional-inspired structure with modern performance, our bespoke glasshouse extensions are designed from the ground up to suit your vision.

Glasshouse Extension FAQs

A glasshouse extension is considered an investment, and understanding how it differs from a conservatory or traditional extension is key. Our bespoke glasshouse extensions are designed as architectural additions to the home, offering the light and openness of glazing with the presence and practicality of a permanent extension.

Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions we’re asked about glasshouse extensions, including cost, design flexibility, build scope, electrics, and timescales.

A glasshouse extension is a modern, architectural glazed extension designed to integrate seamlessly with your home. Unlike traditional glasshouses or lightweight conservatories, glasshouse extensions feature strong framing, defined roof structures, and a more solid, intentional design.

They are ideal for homeowners seeking a contemporary extension that maximises natural light while still feeling like a true part of the property.

The cost of a glasshouse extension varies depending on size, layout, specification, and level of customisation. As a general guide, bespoke glasshouse extensions typically start from £14,500, with larger or more complex designs priced accordingly.

Factors such as glazing specification, roof structure, base insulation, frame colours, and door configurations will influence the final cost. A detailed quotation is provided following a free design consultation.

Here are a few examples from previous builds. Please note that these prices are approximations only and are subject to change.

A 3.5m x 3m Anthracite Grey Glasshouse with 2 Three-Leaf Bifolding Doors and a Glass Lantern, fully installed with base from just £20,050.

A 3m x 3m Anthracite Grey Glasshouse with French Doors, solid sides, a flat Glass Lantern roof, fully fitted from £15,150.

A slightly larger 7m x 3.5m Glasshouse with a partition wall, which splits the Glasshouse into two separate rooms. Black-on-black UPVC, with Sliding Doors in one room and French Doors in the other. A 2m x 2m Pyramid lantern added to one half and vertical windows in the other. From £34,970 for both the removal of a pre-existing structure and the full fitting of their new Bespoke Glasshouse.

Yes. Every glasshouse extension we build is fully bespoke. During the design stage, you can tailor the size, layout, glazing, roof design, frame finishes, and door systems to suit your home and how you intend to use the space.

Our aim is to create a glasshouse extension that complements your property while meeting your practical needs.

All of our glasshouse extensions are supplied as a fully fitted, high-quality structural build, with key features included as standard to ensure performance, durability, and a premium finish.

Every glasshouse extension includes a fully insulated galvanised steel base, with A-rated frames available in a choice of colours to suit your home. All glazing is toughened Planitherm Total+ glass, complete with argon-filled units and warm-edge spacer bars for improved thermal efficiency.

Internally, the room is fully plastered, including the existing house wall, creating a smooth, ready-to-finish interior. First fix electrics are included as standard, with all wiring run for internal sockets, internal lighting, and connection to the mains by your electrician. We also fit external lighting as part of the build.

In terms of layout, you can choose between full-height glass, glass with panels below, or full side panels, allowing the design to be tailored to both style and privacy preferences.

Optional upgrades are available to further enhance your glasshouse extension. Ambient blue glass pyramid roof lanterns can be added for an additional cost, while flat glass roof lanterns are available for £650. Bifold doors and slide-aside doors are also available as upgrades, allowing for wider openings and improved indoor-outdoor flow.

Yes. First fix electrics are included as standard for our glasshouse extensions.

This includes all wiring run and prepared for internal sockets, internal lighting, and external lighting, positioned to suit the design. Final connections and fittings are completed by your electrician, who will connect the system to the mains and carry out second-fix electrics.

In many cases, our glasshouse extensions fall under permitted development and do not require planning permission. However, this depends on factors such as size, location, and whether your property is listed or in a conservation area. We can advise during the design stage and help guide you through any planning requirements if needed.

Wait times can vary depending on the time of year and current demand. Typically, from initial consultation to build start, you can expect a lead time of 8–12 weeks. This allows time for design development, approvals, and manufacturing of bespoke components.

Once construction begins, most conservatories are completed within 1–2 weeks, depending on size and complexity. Larger or more detailed projects may take slightly longer. We’ll provide a clear schedule before work begins so you know exactly what to expect.

Yes. Our glasshouse extensions are designed to deliver excellent comfort, thermal performance, and year-round usability as standard.

All glass units are toughened Planitherm Total+, complete with argon-filled glazing and warm edge spacer bars, helping to reduce heat loss and improve energy efficiency. Frames are A-rated and available in a choice of colours, allowing the extension to be tailored to both performance and appearance.

Every glasshouse extension is supplied fully fitted, including a fully insulated galvanised steel base. The structure is fully plastered internally, including the existing house wall, creating a seamless transition between your home and the new extension.

Roof systems are built using Eurocell roofing, with 32mm, 7-walled Heatguard polycarbonate included as standard. This provides excellent insulation while maintaining high light transmission. For those looking to upgrade further, ambient blue glass pyramid roof lanterns are available at an additional cost, while flat glass roof lanterns can be added for £650.

To support future finishing, all first fix wiring is included, with wiring run for internal sockets, internal lighting, and connection to the mains by your electrician. We also fit external lights as part of the build.

Design flexibility is built in, with options for full glass elevations, glass with panels below, or full side panels, depending on privacy, insulation, and visual preference. Bifold doors and slide-aside doors are also available as optional upgrades.

Together, these features ensure every glasshouse extension functions as a comfortable, energy-efficient extension of your home, with the option to enhance it further through carefully selected upgrades.

Absolutely. Matching your glasshouse to your home is a key part of our design process. From roof pitch and glazing bars to colour finishes and proportions, every detail is carefully considered to ensure the glasshouse feels like a natural extension of your property.
